Vikings Luxury Buffet, the Philippines' largest buffet restaurant, will feature dishes from around the United States of America in celebration of the Fourth of July. Every weekend of July, diners will experience a unique culinary tour of the USA starting on July 4, 2014.
All fiveVikings branches (SM MOA, SM Megamall, SM Marikina, SM North EDSA & SM Lanang Premier) will participate in the celebration. Each branch will have a different set of menu to offer, and no same menu will be served during the whole month. So every visit will surely be a unique experience.
We were invited by Vikings Luxury Buffet to sample selected items from the Fourth of July Menu of their SM Marikina branch so we can share a preview to our readers. Joining us were Vikings SM Marikina Executive Chef Jenny Gumboc, Sous Chef Gerard Torre, Pastry Chef Michael Ecogo and Vikings Assistant Marketing Head Ms. Raquel Bartolome. Here's what we had for lunch:
Beer Battered Chicken in Honey Mustard Tortilla Wrap
For appetizer, we had the Beer Battered Chicken in Honey Mustard Tortilla Wrap. The battered chicken is combined with cucumber, carrots, iceberg lettuce, mango and onion and is served with honey mustard dressing.
American Dream Maki
Another appetizer was the American Dream Maki. The Philadelphia Maki (right) has salmon, cream cheese and cucumber and topped with teriyaki sauce and Japanese mayonnaise. The New York Maki (middle) has salmon, apples and white sesame seeds, and topped with ebikko (fish eggs) and green-colored tempura flakes. The Alaska Maki has salmon, avocado and cucumber, and topped with jalapeno, green onion and Japanese mayonnaise.
Next served was the Farmers Salad. It has ham, corn, carrot, bell pepper, lettuce and basic thousand island dressing.
Alaskan Salmon Chowder
For soup, we had the Alaskan Salmon Chowder. It was a thick soup made of pureed potatoes and cream with salmon and dill.
For our main course, the first dish served was the Pan-Seared Salmon in Bearnaise Sauce & Sun Dried Tomato and Wild Mushroom Fettuccine. The salmon was perfectly pan-seared, moist and tender on the inside while lightly crunchy on the outside. The salmon is served on top of the fettuccine flavored with sun dried tomatoes and wild mushroom.
After all of the appetizers and tasty seafood dishes served, we were given a shot of Lime Sorbet to wash down the flavors, in preparation for more main course dishes.
Country Style Smoked Peppered Pork Ribs
Our second main course dish was the Country Style Smoked Peppered Pork Ribs with French Green Beans and Caramelized Onion. The ribs had the right smokey, peppery barbecue dressing will a well balanced sweetness and spiciness. We also loved the very crunchy French green beans.
Chuck Eye Roll
Our third and last main course dish was the Chuck Eye Roll with Cream of Pepper Sauce, American Cajun Potato Wedges & Grilled Corn on Cob. The Chuch Eye Roll was very tender and had the right moisture and juiciness. The Cream of Pepper Sauce was not overpowered by the black pepper flavor, just right to give it a flavor.
Choco Banana Mouse
For the finale, we were served three types of desserts. First was the Seattle Coffee Walnut Cake. It had the right sweetness. The ground walnut gave it an interesting contrast in texture.
Choco Banana Mouse
Next was the Choco Banana Mouse. Chocolate and banana is always a good combination. This one is event topped with a slice of white chocolate bar.
Lastly, we had the classic New York Cheesecake topped with blueberry. It had a good balance of sweetness and sourness, just the way we like it.
Note that dishes featured on this article are plated for the purpose of food photoshoot and sampling. These dishes may have a different look when served at the buffet table. None the less, the taste and flavors will be the same.
