Philippine Food Festival 2016 Shangri-La Sydney

Shangri-La Hotel Sydney, in partnership with Makati Shangri-La Manila, the Philippine Department of Tourism and Philippine Airlines, highlights Filipino Cuisine as the latest emerging food trend around the world through its annual Philippine Food Festival themed buffet happening this September 16-25, 2016 at Cafe Mix, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant.

Guest chefs Rico Celdo Venzon, Athena Blanche Tan Oropesa and Erma Balaquiao Palanca from the Makati Shangri-La Manila will be joining the team of Shangri-La Hotel Sydney’s Head Chef Bo Sorensen in creating the colorful and festive flavors of Filipino cuisine which business travelers, locals and Filipinos living in Sydney will truly enjoy.

The variety of dishes will be as diverse as the islands comprising the Philippines with influences from Malay, Chinese and Spanish cuisines, creating one of the most unique and exciting cuisine of Asia. Expect a spread comprised of a creative menu that will be both familiar yet surprising for both Filipino and Australian diners.

Take comfort from classic Filipino dishes such as Adobong Manok (a rich chicken dish cooked in soy, vinegar and garlic) and crowd pleasers Lechon Kawali Sisig (stir-fried crispy pork) and Kare-Kareng Buntot ng Baka (stewed oxtail in peanut sauce). Be adventurous and try the Sinigang (a soup dish that combines the savory taste of pork, beef or fish, and the sour taste of tamarind).

Finally, discover the sweet Filipino tooth through the Halo-Halo, is a perennial favorite offering assorted sweetened fruits topped with shaved ice, leche flan, ube, ice cream and milk, along with Turon (a banana-and-jackfruit spring roll) and Maja Blanca (coconut pudding with sweet corn).

The buffet lunch is available from 12:00 noon to 2:30 pm at A$57 per person. The buffet dinner is available from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at A$82 per person. In celebration of the 70 years of collaboration between Australia and the Philippines, Shangri-La Hotel Sydney will donate A$2 for every person who dines at the festival to Operation Restore Hope.
