Flight Review: AirAsia Flight Z2-294 (Manila to Ho Chi Minh City) | Inaugural Flight

17 November 2017 is a special day for Philippines AirAsia as it officially launches its inaugural flight Z2-294 from Manila (Philippines) to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam). This new route is in line with AirAsia's commitment to bring ASEAN countries closer together by connecting the region's key cities. Checking-in to our flight at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, passengers were welcomed by the ground crew waering nón lá, the iconic Vietnamese hat.

As always, check-in to our Philippines AirAsia flight was hassle free. After going through immigration and security check, we went straight to our designated boarding gate 106 which is located at the far end of the international gates. The inaugural flight was officially launched through a short program led by Philippines AirAsia CEO Captain Dexter Comendador and Vietnamese Ambassador to the Philippines Ly Quoc Tuan.

As their way of expressing gratitude, Philippines AirAsia gave away nón lá hats and bánh mì sandwiches to the passengers. Right after the short program, passengers were called to board the aircraft. There was a festive feel at the boarding gate with passengers taking their photos in front of the inaugural flight poster. Boarding went orderly and smoothly. Flight Z2-294 was scheduled to depart Manila at 23:35 but because of the short inaugural program, our flight was delayed by almost 30 minutes, which is forgivable in my opinion. We finally took off at 23:50.

As soon as the fasten seat-belt sign was switched off, the cabin crew immediately commenced serving the pre-booked in-flight meals. I usually buy my meals on-board the flight. During this flight, I was able to try two dishes from AirAsia's Santan menu. The first one was the Beef Tapa with Scrambled Egg, which is a beef dish from the Philippines.

The next one I tried was the Kung Pao Chicken with Rice, which is one of the signature dishes of AirAsia. The Beef Tapa dish is only available in flights operated by Philippines AirAsia while the Kung Pao Chicken is available in all AirAsia flights. A short program immediately followed where ten lucky passengers received 1,000 BIG points and I was one of the lucky ones! Yey!

Despite the delay in our departure from Manila, our flight arrived on time at the Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport at exactly 01:05 local time. It was indeed a fun flight, extra fun because I won 1,000 BIG points which I can use to book flights. Before deplaning, I got the chance to take a photo of our cabin crew. Philippines AirAsia crew are really the best, one reason why I prefer this Airline.

Upon reaching the arrival hall, passengers of AirAsia Flight Z2-294 were welcomed by the staff of Air Asia Việt Nam representative office. Congratulations Philippines AirAsia for the successful launch of your Manila-Ho Chi Minh-Manila route. Thank you very much Captain Dexter Comendador for the safe flight to Ho Chi Minh City.
