Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang (Malaysia)

Penang is a popular travel destination in Malaysia and it is particularly famous for its heritage houses and cuisine. Filipinos who have been to Boracay and Mactan and have stayed in a Shangri-La resort will be pleased to know that there is Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa which they can call as their home in Penang.

As soon as you arrive at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, you will instantly feel the familiar Shangri-La hospitality you experienced back home. You will be given a sense of arrival and a sense of coming home to Shangri-La. For an unforgettable luxurious holiday in Penang, make sure that you stay at the Rasa Wing of Shangr-La's Rasa Ria Resort & Spa.

The exclusive Rasa Wing is reserved for the most discerning travelers who desire privacy, highest standard in luxury accommodation and personalized customer service. The Rasa Wing has its own driveway and lobby, giving it a feeling of a resort within a resort.

The Rasa Premier Room is one of the room categories of the Rasa Wing and is some of the most spacious guestrooms in Penang. With a total of 62 square meters of luxury, the Rasa Premier Room combines the comfort of a studio and all the conveniences of a suite.

The en suite bathroom is equally spacious complete with a his-and-hers basins, a separate walk-in shower and water closet. Guests staying in a Rasa Premier Room are provided with Jasmine & Bergamote toiletries by L'Occitane en Provence.

Highlight of the Rasa Premier Room is the private balcony with an overside soaking tub with a sweeping view the Rasa Wing pool and garden. The Rasa Wing swimming pool is for the exclusive use of Rasa Wing guests.

Next to the pool is Chi, the signature spa of Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts Group. To learn more about the features of the Rasa Premier Room, you can read our complete room feature on

Guests staying at the Rasa Wing also enjoy a host of exclusive privileges at the Rasa Wing Lounge such as the complimentary afternoon tea from 3:00pm to 4:00pm daily, while selected alcoholic beverages, cocktails, and pre-dinner canap├ęs are then served from 5:30pm to 7:00pm daily.

For breakfast, Rasa Wing guests can enjoy an exclusive breakfast at Ferringhi Gill which serves a semi-buffet of continental items plus some Asian and Western hot dishes for an a la carte menu.

Guests also have the option to take their breakfast at Spice Market Cafe located at the Garden Wing. The later offers full breakfast buffet and is very popular among families. For honeymooners and business travelers, I recommend the Ferringhi Grill which is quieter and is less busy than the Spice Market.

Lunch or dinner are the best times to dine at Spice Market Cafe. Its live cooking stations feature Malay, Nyonya-Baba, Chinese, Indian, Thai and Japanese cuisines. The diversity of cuisines served at the restaurant reflects the rich culinary heritage of Penang with influences from various cultures in the region.

The restaurant is very popular not only to the hotel guests but also to the locals. If you plan to dine at Spice Market Cafe, I recommend that you make prior reservation. My favorite stations are the Indian station, the Noodle station, the Asian station and the Dessert station.

Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa is located at Batu Ferringhi Beach which is just a few minutes drive away from Georgetown, the heritage district of Penang. The resort provides scheduled transfers between the resort and Georgetown. You can also book a GrabCar should you wish to go on a food adventure or sightseeing in Georgetown.

How to Get There

There are currently no direct flights from Manila to Penang. To get there, you can take connecting flights either via Kuala Lumpur or Kota Kinabalu. I personally recommend that you take the AirAsia flight from Manila to Kota Kinabalu. From Kota Kinabalu, you can then take the direct AirAsia flight to Penang. From Penang International Airport, the best way to get to Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa is by booking a Grab (MYR36/PHP420).
