NEW Restaurant in Kapitolyo: Red Panda Bistro

Red Panda Kapitolyo

Red Panda Bistro is a newly opened casual dining restaurant in Kapitolyo, Pasig City. They specialize in Chinese & French cuisine, a new dining destination where East really meets with West. The culinary team behind Red Panda Bistro is led by Chef Philip John Golding of the Golding Culinary Group.

The east meets west concept is also integrated into the design of the restaurant. The French inspired interior is matched with Oriental sliding glass doors offering a refreshing sight of the ornamental bamboo plants surrounding the restaurant

Tall glass windows separate their world class kitchen from the dining area with the culinary team preparing dishes right in front of the guests, as if a live cooking show is taking place inside the restaurant.

The second floor of the restaurant offer more private and intimate dining experience. Two separate function rooms can accommodate walk-in guests or may be reserved for small gatherings, business meetings or family celebrations.

Red Panda Bistro has an extensive menu where customers can choose among 90 plus dishes including appetizers, soups, salads, pastas, and main courses of beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish and vegetables. There are also rice dishes, noodles, congees and dimsums. Finally, there are desserts, beverages, coffee, teas, cocktails and a selection of premium wines.

Truffled Roasted Duck Stuffed Ravioli
We started with one of their specialty pasta dishes, the Truffled Roast Duck Stuffed Ravioli (P235.00). Truffled roasted duck meat is used as stuffing into those cute freshly made tricolored ravioli. They are then served with truffle cream sauce and garnished with fresh basil leaves and grated 18-month old Parmesan cheese. High quality ingredients turned into a high quality dish.

In the meantime, take a look at this peculiar glass shaped like a boot. This juice glass is the standard serving glass for their signature Red Panda Iced Tea (P115.00). Special oolong tea is mixed with orange juice and sweetened by honey syrup and grenadine. This orange flavored iced tea is a refreshing drink which is perfect to wash down the rich flavors of the dishes.

Next, we had the Chinese Style Ossobucco (Medium-P395.00; Large-P850). Beef shanks are slow cooked in soy sauce, sherry, flavored with star anise and Szechuan peppercorn spices. The beef is very tender and the sauce is very thick and flavorful. We recommend pairing this with plain steamed rice so no other flavors can mask or destroy the taste of its very rich sauce. According to the menu, the Medium serving is good for 3-4 persons while the Large serving is good for 5-8. We ordered the Medium serving and we think its good for 2-3 persons only unless you are ordering two or more other main dishes.

We also tried some of their dimsums. Edgar had the Roast Duck Dumpling (4 pieces at P120.00). The Hakkaw wrappers are stuffed with roasted duck meat, shiitake mushroom, celery and carrots, and lightly glazed with olive oil and sesame oil. It's dumpling, presented as a dumpling, but the flavors are not distinctly Chinese, rather it's a mixture of flavors from east and west.

I, on the other hand, had the Scallops Siomai (4 pieces at P90.00). I am a big fan of scallops so I didn't let the opportunity pass when I saw this on the menu. The scallops tasted and smelled very fresh. They were tender to the bite and a bit moist. Every bite releases the delicious flavor of the scallops that I truly love.

Finally, we ordered Red Panda Cheesecake (P190.00) for dessert. A chocolate crust is filled with cream cheese mixture and topped with mixed berries (such as raspberry, strawberry and blackberry) and strawberry couli.

A great amount of work has been done to give this dessert an impressive presentation. The cheesecake however tasted ordinary, and is too small even for one person. I hope they can add more dessert items on their menu.

Overall, Red Panda Bistro offers fresh and interesting dishes that are modern and creative. Two very distinct cuisines are harmonized and blended into new flavors. The best of both worlds are artistically combined by the creative mind of Chef Philip John Golding. We will surely be back to try other items on the menu.

Important: Red Panda Bistro is currently on soft opening. Please be a little patient as you might encounter some kinks in the service. Just enjoy the food as much as we did. Additional tip, the airconditioning unit at the ground floor is not working perfectly so it can get warm during lunchtime. Some of the guests are directed to the second floor where the function rooms are supposedly cooler than the ground floor dining area. There's parking space good for 3-4 cars or SUVs only, streetside parking is also available in the area. At the moment, they only accept cash payment.
