Bistro Selera at SM Lanang Premier, Davao City

Bistro Selera is a casual dining restaurant specializing in classic Filipino dishes using the distictive flavors of Davao. The restaurant is located at the second floor of the Fountain Court of SM Lanang Premier in Davao City, next to Park Inn by Radisson Davao. The restaurant features bright interiors, warm lights and colorful accents and wall decors. The restaurant is ideal for familis and intimate dinings. For tourists visting Davao for Kadayawan, Bistro Selera is one of the best spots to have a taste of authentic and modern Davao cuisine.

For starters, we recommend the Suha Salad (P195.00) featuring one of Davao's most celebrated fruit, the pomelo. Chunks of pomelo are tossed with locally grown herbs, peanuts and vegetables and seasoned with fish sauce dressing. The sweet-sour taste of the juicy pomelos complements the light, sweet-salty fish sauce while the vegetables and  peanuts gives the salad a crunchy texture.

Another interesting appetizer at Bistro Selera is the Selera's Bagaybay (P260.00). Bagaybay (tuna gonad) is one of the widely used ingredients in Davao cooking, Selera's version had the bagaybay wrapped in bacon. The special garlic sauce perfectly combines the flavors of the bagaybay and bacon. We find this appetizer both hearty and savory and is a good match to the Suha Salad. We also think that this will go well with plain rice as ulam.

The Seafood Durian Curry (P325.00) is so far the most innovative dish we have tried in Davao. Davao's king of fruits, the durian, is known for its pungent smell. But Bistro Selera's creativity transformed this fruit into an ingredient for a savory dish. Durian has a creamy taste, so it's really a good idea to combine it with coconut milk. This curry dish actually has very light curry flavor, not spicy at all, while the durian flavor is not overpowering at all. The seafoods were not overcooked and were easy to the bite. It's a dish that we truly enjoyed.

Selera's best-seller is their Crispy Pata (P485.00). Almost all guests during our visit had this on their table. This is not surprising because the meat is very tender and super juicy while the skin is very crispy. Just the way we Filipinos like the crispy pata. It is then served with soy-vinegar dip and some slices of salted eggs.

Finally for dessert, we recommend the Mangosteen Ice Cream & Biko. They take pride in their homemade mangosteen ice cream. It's creamy with a sweet-sour aftertaste. The biko that goes with the ice cream was drizzled with coco jam. Together, the ice cream and the biko are perfect pairs to finish of the suptuous meal.

Bagaybay, pomelo, durian and mangosteen, these are the flavors that Bistro Selera has interated into their cooking so that visitors can enjoy the flavors of Davao and have a very memorable dining experience served with the unique Dabaweny hospitality.
