Being an international franchise, Restoran Garuda follows strict culinary standards to ensure that they serve authentically tasting Indonesian food. In fact, two Indonesian chefs were sent by Restoran Garuda HQ to Manila to oversee the management of the kitchen and of the local culinary team while the restaurant runs on soft opening. The restaurant also follows the rigorous halal dietary law and will soon receive its official certification as a Halal establishment.

Nasi Goreng by Restoran Garuda Indonesian Restaurant in Salcedo Legazpi Village Makati
Nasi Goreng Packet with Sate Ayam | Restoran Garuda, Makati, Philippines

The first dish we tried was the Nasi Goreng Packet which includes as serving of Nasi Goreng (a savory fried rice dish), a choice of Sate (marinated chicken, beef or vegetables grilled and smothered with peanut sauce), Fried Egg, Pickled Vegetables, and Krupuk (deep fried prawn crackers). Nasi Goreng is also available as a separate order which comes with chunks of chicken, beef or vegetables mixed into the rice. But we were told that Sate Ayam, or chicken sate, is also one of the specialties of Restoran Garuda, so we opted for the more complete Nasi Goreng Packet which is ideal for solo diners. For groups, we recommend separate orders of Nasi Goren and Sate Ayam for sharing.

Another dish we sampled was the Mee Goreng which is a classic fried noodle dish famous in Jakarta. You can have it with chicken, beef or vegetables. The level of spiciness can also be adjusted from non-spicy, to mild, medium and spicy. It is also served with fried egg and krupuk. You can also try the Padang version Mee Goreng Padang which is cooked with Restoran Garuda's signature peanut sauce.

The highlight of our meal was definitely the Beef Rendang. The recipe is consistent with the recipe used by Restoran Garuda in Indonesia, and they are very strict when it comes to the quality. We were told that no changes to the recipe was made, no ingredients were substituted, not even the spiciness level was adjusted. So get that pitcher of water ready for a spicy meal. This has got to be the most authentic rendang you can find here in Manila. Rendang is best enjoyed with steamed rice (a serving of the steamed rice costs only P45 and is already good for two persons). Rendang is also available with chicken or vegetarian.

Overall, we are very satisfied with our dining experience at Restoran Garuda. The place is well airconditioned and clean. The menu was well laid out making it easy to choose items to orger. Service was efficient and food is served quickly. Vegetarians will also be pleased to know that most items on the menu have a vegetarian version.
