Dole Philippines Pineapple Plantation in Polomolok, South Cotabato

panorama view of the Dole Philippines Pineapple Plantation in Polomolok South Cotabato

It was almost 50 years ago when Dole, a world leader in fresh and packaged fruits and vegetable production, chose the fertile land of Polomolok in the Province of South Cotabato, to farm its delicious pineapples. Today, Dole is the world's largest producer of bananas and pineapples, with majority of its pineapple production facilities located in Polomolok.

After our welcome lunch at Dole Philippines' Kalsangi Clubhouse, Dole arranged for us a tour around its pineapple plantation. Joining us are Dole Philippines very own Ms. Gwyn Ebol, Mr. Aethan Yting and Mr. Domingo Poliquit. After a scenic drive on a dirt road in the middle of Dole's hectars upon hectars of pineapple fields, with the majestic Mt. Matutum at the background, we finally reached the spot where we could roam around and have a close encounter with these wonderful fruits.

It was really amazing to see so much pineapples everywhere we looked. Mr. Poliquit gave us a quick demo how easy it is to harvest pineapples and everyone became ecstatic when Mr. Poliquit gave us the go signal to harvest our own pineapple!

Equipped with a pocket knife, Mr. Poliquit started pealing and slicing the pineapples we harvested. The back of pickup truck was converted into a pineapple buffet table. We couldn't have enough of these sweet, fresh pineapples. Every bite into each slice of the fruit gave us a sense of pride in the high quality of pineapples grown on Philippine soil.

It is certainly an experience that we will always treasure. Every time we would bite on a Dole pineapple, wherever that may be, a pictue of Polomolok will surely come into our minds.

This happened on September 1, 2012, day-1 of SoCCSkSarGen Experience Tour 4.0.
